C&rsquo;est la premi\u00e8re fois que l&rsquo;on dispose de mesures couvrant toutes les latitudes de Jupiter, et c&rsquo;est donc la premi\u00e8re fois que l&rsquo;on peut cartographier globalement le\u00a0champ magn\u00e9tique\u00a0de Jupiter, le plus intense des plan\u00e8tes du\u00a0syst\u00e8me solaire. Au contraire de la\u00a0Terre, o\u00f9 la\u00a0dynamo, \u00e0 l&rsquo;origine du\u00a0champ\u00a0magn\u00e9tique, est localis\u00e9e dans le noyau externe essentiellement compos\u00e9 de\u00a0fer\u00a0liquide\u00a0\u00e0 tr\u00e8s hautes\u00a0pression\u00a0et\u00a0temp\u00e9rature, on pense que sur Jupiter, la dynamo trouve son origine dans une couche profonde o\u00f9 l&rsquo;hydrog\u00e8ne m\u00e9tallique\u00a0domine.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.techno-science.net\/illustration\/Source\/CNRS-INSU\/2022\/09\/22\/Figure2_0-itok-olqoMnd2.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Dans une nouvelle \u00e9tude men\u00e9e par une \u00e9quipe de\u00a0recherche\u00a0comprenant des scientifiques du CNRS-ISNU, quatre ann\u00e9es d&rsquo;observations\u00a0ont \u00e9t\u00e9 utilis\u00e9es pour calculer un mod\u00e8le global du champ jovien. \u00c0 la\u00a0surface, le champ exc\u00e8de 1,6 mT, plus de 20 fois le champ terrestre. Les chercheurs ont analys\u00e9 le spectre d&rsquo;\u00e9nergie\u00a0de ce mod\u00e8le et ont d\u00e9termin\u00e9 que le rayon de la zone dynamo est \u00e9gal \u00e0 0,83 rayons joviens, soit bien plus superficiel que dans le cas de la Terre. Cette zone correspond \u00e0 une r\u00e9gion o\u00f9 l&rsquo;hydrog\u00e8ne\u00a0change de phase et devient m\u00e9tallique, comme d\u00e9duit de nouvelles\u00a0donn\u00e9es\u00a0exp\u00e9rimentales (Brygoo et al. 2021).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grace \u00e0 plusieurs ann\u00e9es de mesures, il est aujourd&rsquo;hui aussi possible d&rsquo;observer et de quantifier directement la variation s\u00e9culaire (ou annuelle) du champ jovien. Sur Terre, le changement annuel est de l&rsquo;ordre de 0,35 % ; sur Jupiter, il est plus important et atteint presque 0,6 %. Les\u00a0temps\u00a0caract\u00e9ristiques de la variation s\u00e9culaire indiquent que les processus g\u00e9n\u00e9rant la dynamo sont essentiellement des mouvements d&rsquo;advection (les mouvements font directement varier le champ). Certaines structures, notamment pr\u00e8s de l&rsquo;\u00e9quateur, sugg\u00e8rent des mouvements zonaux, peut-\u00eatre \u00e0 relier \u00e0 ceux observ\u00e9s en surface, mais il y a d&rsquo;autres structures, non zonales, qu&rsquo;il faut aussi prendre en compte.
