Ce champ de ma\u00efs appartient \u00e0 ce jeune agriculteur, Lavie Munguiko. Depuis un certain temps, il a constat\u00e9, impuissant, l\u2019apparition d\u2019un insecte d\u00e9vastateur : la chenille l\u00e9gionnaire. Les d\u00e9g\u00e2ts caus\u00e9s sur les r\u00e9coltes sont importants.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0C&rsquo;est une chenille l\u00e9gionnaire qui attaque nos champs. Dans notre langue locale, nous l\u2019appelons Ngongwa. Elle appara\u00eet lors de la saison s\u00e8che et de la saison de pluie\u00a0\u00bb, explique-t-il.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>L\u2019ing\u00e9nieur agronome Jadot Mateso s\u2019int\u00e9resse de pr\u00e8s \u00e0 cet insecte. La chenille serait d\u2019origine am\u00e9ricaine et sa pr\u00e9sence serait favoris\u00e9e par le changement climatique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Selon nos diff\u00e9rentes recherches dans la r\u00e9gion, la chenille s&rsquo;appelle spodoptera frugiperda, elle est originaire de la r\u00e9gion am\u00e9ricaine. C&rsquo;est une chenille tr\u00e8s dangereuse et qui cause \u00e9norm\u00e9ment des d\u00e9g\u00e2ts dans les champs et \u00e7a r\u00e9duit sensiblement la production \u00e0 plus au moins 60%\u00a0\u00bb, explique-t-il.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les cons\u00e9quences de la pr\u00e9sence de cet insecte sont visibles dans les march\u00e9s de Goma. Le prix des ma\u00efs a sensiblement augment\u00e9 depuis que la production est en baisse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Certains commer\u00e7ants affirment qu&rsquo;un sac de ma\u00efs qui s&rsquo;achetait il y a quelque temps \u00e0 30 ou 35 dollars am\u00e9ricains co\u00fbte aujourd&rsquo;hui entre 75 et 80 dollars am\u00e9ricains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pour Girogeta Nyirabimana, m\u00e8re de famille, et ses 5 enfants, se nourrir devient ainsi de plus en plus difficile. Ici, le ma\u00efs constituait jusqu\u2019\u00e0 pr\u00e9sent l\u2019aliment de base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Ces derniers temps, mes enfants sont affam\u00e9s. Avec nos maigres moyens, on se nourrissait jusqu\u2019\u00e0 pr\u00e9sent de ma\u00efs. Mais aujourd&rsquo;hui nous n&rsquo;avons plus quoi nourrir nos enfants \u00e0 cause de la famine\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les autorit\u00e9s ont promis d\u2019apporter des solutions pour que la population puisse faire face \u00e0 la p\u00e9nurie de ma\u00efs.
