Dans l\u2019Est de la R\u00e9publique d\u00e9mocratique du Congo (RDC), les autorit\u00e9s et l’entrepreneur fran\u00e7ais Michel Halbwachs ont, enfin, lanc\u00e9 les travaux de d\u00e9gazage du golfe de Kabuno, situ\u00e9 dans le coin nord\u2013ouest du lac Kivu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cela fait des ann\u00e9es que les autorit\u00e9s sont alert\u00e9es par la pr\u00e9sence massive de dioxyde de carbone capable d\u2019asphyxier des millions d\u2019habitants dans la r\u00e9gion. Le gaz toxique se situe \u00e0 une vingtaine de m\u00e8tres de la surface et les travaux devraient permettre de l\u2019extraire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joint par RFI, Didier Budimbu, ministre congolais des hydrocarbures, assure que cette op\u00e9ration ne pr\u00e9sente aucun risque pour les habitants des villes riveraines du lac Kivu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0\u00ab\u00a0Il <\/em>[le dioxyde de carbone] est \u00e0 moins de vingt m\u00e8tres de la surface et c\u2019est tr\u00e8s dangereux. Le pr\u00e9sident de la R\u00e9publique a donc d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de faire ce travail. Nous connaissons tous la catastrophe qu\u2019a connue le Cameroun dans les ann\u00e9es 1980 au niveau du lac Nyos. Ce que nous allons faire c\u2019est pour pouvoir sauver des vies humaines. L\u2019urgence est que chaque jour qui passe, le dioxyde de carbone se rapproche de plus en plus de la surface et en m\u00eame temps, nous savons tous que du c\u00f4t\u00e9 du grand lac Kivu, l\u00e0 o\u00f9 il y a les habitations, si jamais il y avait \u00e9ruption au niveau du volcan Nyamuragira – qui est encore actif – croyez-moi qu\u2019on risque d\u2019avoir une catastrophe. C\u2019est pour cela que le gouvernement a anticip\u00e9 car gouverner, c\u2019est pr\u00e9voir. Le chef de l\u2019\u00c9tat a d\u00e9cid\u00e9 que nous puissions avancer dans ce sens-l\u00e0, d\u2019o\u00f9 le lancement de ce d\u00e9gazage. Les travaux vont durer des ann\u00e9es et c\u2019est chaque jour que l\u2019on va extraire, petit \u00e0 petit. Avec le minist\u00e8re de l\u2019Environnement, tout a \u00e9t\u00e9 mis en place. A c\u00f4t\u00e9, il y a aussi une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 charg\u00e9e de voir comment reboiser, comment essayer de placer les plantes qu\u2019il faut de fa\u00e7on \u00e0 ce que, chaque fois qu\u2019on va extraire ce gaz, il sera absorb\u00e9 par ces plantes. Tout a \u00e9t\u00e9 mis en place et il n\u2019y aura pas de danger pour la population\u00a0\u00bb.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
