Depuis quelques ann\u00e9es, le streaming est devenu un \u00e9l\u00e9ment majeur de l\u2019\u00e9conomie musicale africaine.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">L\u2019industrie musicale a connu une profonde mutation digitale qui a impact\u00e9 toute sa cha\u00eene de valeur. La musique enregistr\u00e9e constitue d\u00e9sormais le principal mode d\u2019\u00e9coute, d\u00e9passant largement les formats physiques (CD, vinyles, etc.) et les t\u00e9l\u00e9chargements payants, soit pr\u00e8s de 70&nbsp;%, indique le \u00ab&nbsp;Global Music Report 2025&nbsp;\u00bb de la F\u00e9d\u00e9ration internationale de l&rsquo;industrie phonographique, qui dresse l\u2019\u00e9tat du march\u00e9 mondial de la musique enregistr\u00e9e.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cette transformation a rebattu les cartes dans la redistribution des redevances \u2014 ou royalties \u2014 aux artistes dont les \u0153uvres sont stream\u00e9es. <em>\u00ab&nbsp;La num\u00e9risation, loin d&rsquo;\u00eatre une simple \u00e9volution technologique, constitue une mutation profonde des paradigmes \u00e9conomiques \u00e9tablis, cr\u00e9ant de nouvelles sources de revenus pour les artistes\u2026<\/em> <em>\u00bb<\/em>, explique ainsi le Camerounais Davy Lessouga, expert en transformation digitale des industries culturelles et en \u00e9conomie de la musique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">L\u2019Afrique subsaharienne a connu en 2024 une croissance des revenus de la musique enregistr\u00e9e, affichant une progression de 22,6&nbsp;% pour un record de 110 millions USD, soit environ cinq fois la croissance mondiale (4,8&nbsp;%), pr\u00e9cise le rapport. Dans cette nouvelle \u00e8re, la rentabilit\u00e9 de la cr\u00e9ation artistique interroge, alors que l&rsquo;\u00e9cosyst\u00e8me reste tr\u00e8s concurrentiel et que la fracture num\u00e9rique d\u00e9favorise certaines couches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La r\u00e9mun\u00e9ration des artistes d\u00e9pend d\u2019un ensemble de variables \u00e9conomiques, contractuelles, g\u00e9ographiques et techniques qui expliquent pourquoi certains gagnent nettement plus que d\u2019autres sur les plateformes de streaming. La d\u00e9finition des normes en fonction de la plateforme, du profil de ses utilisateurs, du mod\u00e8le \u00e9conomique et du pays de l\u2019auditeur offre un meilleur aper\u00e7u de la situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Le mod\u00e8le de calcul des royalties<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Le mod\u00e8le de calcul des royalties influence la fa\u00e7on dont les plateformes de streaming r\u00e9partissent les revenus. Les r\u00e9gions \u00e0 forte capacit\u00e9 de d\u00e9pense (\u00c9tats-Unis, Europe occidentale et Scandinavie) g\u00e9n\u00e8rent des abonnements plus chers et plus de recettes publicitaires, et par cons\u00e9quent des payouts plus \u00e9lev\u00e9s, contrairement aux march\u00e9s africains o\u00f9 les abonnements sont moins chers et domin\u00e9s par le streaming gratuit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">L\u2019artiste africain n\u2019est ainsi pas log\u00e9 \u00e0 la m\u00eame enseigne que celui europ\u00e9en ou am\u00e9ricain. Dans une interview accord\u00e9e \u00e0 <em>CIO Mag<\/em>, Davy Lessouga a affirm\u00e9 qu&rsquo;\u00ab&nbsp;<em>au S\u00e9n\u00e9gal, seul pays francophone d\u2019Afrique subsaharienne \u00e0 b\u00e9n\u00e9ficier de la mon\u00e9tisation YouTube, plus de 10 millions de vues ont g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9 \u00e0 peine 971&nbsp;\u20ac pour le vid\u00e9ogramme du titre \u2018\u2019Coup du marteau\u2019\u2019 (chanson \u00e0 succ\u00e8s de la CAN 2023, Ndlr.)<\/em>&nbsp;\u00bb de l&rsquo;artiste ivoiro-s\u00e9n\u00e9galo-camerounais Tam Sir, soit seulement 697&nbsp;000 FCFA. Ces revenus sont bien plus \u00e9lev\u00e9s dans d&rsquo;autres r\u00e9gions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Plus d\u2019abonnements payants g\u00e9n\u00e8rent logiquement plus de revenus par stream que des \u00e9coutes gratuites ou publicitaires \u2014 tr\u00e8s fr\u00e9quentes dans une Afrique o\u00f9 la fracture num\u00e9rique constitue d\u00e9j\u00e0 un frein. D\u2019apr\u00e8s le site web de la plateforme \u00e9ducative sur la musique Guitar &amp; Music Institute (GMI), le mod\u00e8le Premium des plateformes de streaming, payant, \u00e9limine les publicit\u00e9s et booste les revenus tandis que le mod\u00e8le Freemium, qui est la version gratuite, privil\u00e9gie les publicit\u00e9s mais p\u00e9nalise les artistes. Les artistes ciblant un public majoritairement premium peuvent obtenir une r\u00e9mun\u00e9ration plus importante par stream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Les royalties des artistes africains en fonction des plateformes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Toutes les plateformes de streaming ne traitent pas les auteurs de la m\u00eame mani\u00e8re. Selon les donn\u00e9es publi\u00e9es sur le march\u00e9 nig\u00e9rian (l\u2019un des plus dynamiques du continent africain) par la plateforme de distribution de musique num\u00e9rique Viral Playlists Digital, des \u00e9carts plus ou moins consid\u00e9rables existent dans les programmes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La r\u00e9mun\u00e9ration sur Spotify est basse mais constitue un standard, tandis qu\u2019Apple Music r\u00e9mun\u00e8re trois fois plus que ce montant de base. Les artistes ne per\u00e7oivent ainsi pas la totalit\u00e9 de la somme affich\u00e9e par les plateformes. Ce montant est souvent partag\u00e9 avec les plateformes et les labels\/distributeurs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Le cas des artistes ind\u00e9pendants<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Par ailleurs, tous les artistes ne sont pas sous contrat avec des maisons de distribution. Cens\u00e9s b\u00e9n\u00e9ficier de la quasi-int\u00e9gralit\u00e9 de leurs revenus, les artistes ind\u00e9pendants ne sont pas toujours \u00e0 l\u2019abri de nouveaux accords de licence initi\u00e9s par les diffuseurs num\u00e9riques.&nbsp;<em>\u00ab&nbsp;Les ind\u00e9pendants sont invit\u00e9s \u00e0 signer des contrats avec Amazon bas\u00e9s sur des seuils qui ont un impact disproportionn\u00e9 sur leurs artistes et leurs revenus, certains signalant qu&rsquo;environ 70&nbsp;% ou plus de leur r\u00e9pertoire est d\u00e9mon\u00e9tis\u00e9 du jour au lendemain&nbsp;\u00bb, <\/em>critique Helen Smith, pr\u00e9sidente ex\u00e9cutive d\u2019Impala (Independent Music Companies Association).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Si Amazon Music affirme que de <em>\u00ab&nbsp;nombreux&nbsp;\u00bb<\/em> artistes et labels ind\u00e9pendants verront leurs redevances augmenter gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 son nouveau syst\u00e8me de versement, il n\u2019en demeure pas moins que cette clause cache un pi\u00e8ge. Inspir\u00e9 de Spotify et Deezer, Amazon Music exclut ou r\u00e9duit les royalties des morceaux sous un seuil d\u2019\u00e9coute fixe, favorisant les artistes d\u00e9j\u00e0 populaires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Ubrick F.
